Cosmic Gate ‘Wake Your Mind'
They started the year off with the Back 2 The Future album and now, in highly industrious (and pleasingly-symmetrical) fashion, Cosmic Gate are rounding 2011 off with a long-player too.
Over the course of the last 8 months, in between an intensive-as-ever gig schedule, Nic and Bossi have been hard at it, working to create their finest, most musically expansive album to date. Towards the end of the summer the pair all but locked themselves in the studio to get the final polish to 'Wake Your Mind'. With that album just released, in that manner we do, we've cast a keen ear to it, to see what they've got on board. Straight out of the gate (pun intended!) we're met by The Theme and Barra - the album's impressive advance guard singles. For vocal fans there's a quick recall for US doyen Aruna, who, after Sign Of The Times track Under Your Spell beguiles again with All Around You and (if you pick up your copy from iTunes) Free Falling - the incredible vocal treatment newly bestowed to Barra. Emma Hewitt puts in a couple of appearances too, on Calm Down and current, hammered-by-everyone single, Be Your Sound. Also making a play for the vocal muse position is young Australian discovery Alana Aldea, who flawlessly conveys the lamenting emotion on lyrical triumphs Beautiful Destruction and Never Apart. As an album Wake Your Mind is Nic and Bossi's rail again out-of-date conceptions of the their music, something the act have struggled with more than most others. So it more than stands to reason that they've looked to the less obvious margins to seek out imaginative co-production partners to work with. Alongside Anjunadeep/Beats artist Andrew Bayer, they've hit struck the house chord with Nothing Ever Lasts and Sometimes They Come Back with Canada's Arnej does equitable amounts of underground damage.
If you'd like to check out Nic and Bossi's latest 'n' greatest on us, here's where! All you need to do is tell us the name of just one of their other albums. 3 will get lucky and receive one!
